The Belle Terre Swim and Racquet Club Advisory Committee is an organization representing the members of the Belle Terre Swim and Racquet Club. The Committee was reconstituted on August 24th, 2015. The original reason for reconstituting the Committee was to create a legal entity that would represent the members of the Belle Terre Swim and Racquet Club in matters before the Flagler County Schools related to operations at the Club. That entity would be able to negotiate, interact with, and if necessary bid on proposals developed by the Flagler County Schools.
The Committee became necessary when the owners of the Club, Flagler County Schools, voted to close the facility to the general public and current members in September of 2015. Club members organized to protest the closing and offer viable alternatives to the School Board to keep the Club operational. Various steps were taken by the organization to save the facility including bidding on a School Request for Proposal. In a final effort to keep the facility open the School Board entered into a partnership with the Committee on October 2015.
In this partnership Flagler Schools would remain the manager of the Club and be responsible for all costs including employees and maintenance. In return the Committee would be primarily responsible for selling memberships and raising funds to cover the costs of running the facility. The Committee would also be responsible for creating new programs, helping set membership costs, and revitalizing the facility.
The Advisory Committee is totally a member’s organization. Members include all of those that pay for yearly and monthly memberships, Silver Sneaker members, and all of those individuals that take part in Adult Education classes at the club. As a legal non-profit Florida corporation the Advisory Committee can and does seek grants and raise funds for the continuation of the Belle Terre Swim and Racquet Club. We hope to keep the Club a community health club for all members of the Flagler County community now and into the future. Come and join us.
